"John K. Stuff"

Cool blog: http://johnkstuff.blogspot.com/.
Atheists complain that God killed good Christian people in New Orleans, but God is sovereign over life and the Katrina victims went straight to Heaven!

Seven Deadly Sins; Pray for Me!

The seven deadly sins are sloth, greed, lust, gluttony, envy, anger, and pride. I especially need to work on not being slothful and gluttonous—what about you?

Flood Legends and their Ultimate Origin

Flood legends from around the world point to an historical flood that spawned the legends. Fa-He, the alleged founder of Chinese civilization, allegedly escaped from a deluge and repopulated the world with his wife and 3 sons and 3 daughters. The Chinese character for ark is literally "8 mouths" (8 people). Fiji Islanders speak of a flood which a family of 8 survived. Mexicans, Greeks, Sumerians, Hawaiians, Algonquins, and Hindus have flood accounts superficially similar to the one in Genesis.

Genesis is the original and true flood story. The Babylonian epic is loosely based on the historical flood but is false. The cubical ship couldn't have saved lives in the raging waters. It is reasonable to assume a rainfall lasting more than 7 days, and more than 1 day for the floodwaters to have subsided. Unlike the Genesis account, the Babylonian legend doesn't give the flood's year.

Illusionism Is Self-Defeating

Everything is just one big illusion

Illusionism is false. It is self-defeating because it affirms all is illusory, while there must be a real standard which defines the illusion. The origin, persistence, and universality of evil supports its objectivity and reality. Illusionism is unlivable; illusionists eat, drink, and try to avoid pain.

Sikhism is False

Sikhism is the true religion

Sikhism is false. It posits reincarnation [1] and is unitarian. Nanak's claims to be a prophet were not verified by miracles.

R.I.P. Don Knotts.
If you haven't read any of the Bible yet, a good place to start is the four Gospels.
Happy Black History Month.

Sun Myung Moon the Pseudomessiah

The Unification Church is the true Church and Sun Myung Moon is the Messiah

The Unification Church is false. "Reverend" Sun Myung Moon wrongly teaches that he is the Messiah, the Holy Spirit is female, Jesus is not God, Jesus cannot physically save us, there was no resurrection, the Trinity is false, and Jesus won't come back.
As of now I seriously doubt the validity of the ontological argument. The ontological argument can't really prove that God exists without affirming that something exists. God's existence is actually necessary but not logically necessary, because it is always logically possible that nothing ever existed (this refers to the state, not concept, of nothingness). Alvin Plantinga's argument is not a purely ontological approach, but somewhat of an a posteriori cosmological approach, since it assumes something exists.

God Does Not Change His Mind

The God of the Bible is not omniscient and immutable because He changes His mind several times

God did not change His mind in Genesis 6, Jonah 3, Numbers 14, and any other instance. Human beings changed in relation to God, and therefore it only appeared from a human perspective that God changed. There was a repentance on the part of humans. The warning in Jonah 3 was conditional.

Proof of the Divine Inspiration of the Bible

The Bible is the inspired inerrant word of God

The Bible is the Word of God. [1] The original text is inerrant. [2] It was written by prophets of God, moved by the Holy Spirit, and confirmed by miracles, archaeology, and predictive prophecy. [3] The Bible has amazing unity and transforming power, and was confirmed by the testimony of Jesus, [4] God the Son.

False Assumptions of Negative Bible Critics

Negative Bible Criticism is the right approach to reading the Bible

Negative Bible critics wrongly assume that the unexplained is unexplainable, forget the Bible's human characteristics, assume the Bible is guilty of error unless proven innocent, confuse interpretations with revelation, assume a partial report is a false report, fail to understand the context, presume that the Bible approves of everything it records, neglect to note literary devices, assume divergent accounts are false, forget that only the original text is inerrant, assume round numbers are false, confuse general statements with universal statements, and forget that later revelation supersedes earlier revelation.

Abiogenesis is the correct account of the origin of life on earth

Abiogenesis is false. The origin-of-life experiments involve illegitimate intelligent intervention. Oxygen is excluded in the experiments, but Earth's early atmosphere had oxygen. Oxygen would've ruined the process, and UV radiation would've destroyed early molecules. No satisfactory answer has been given as to how the chemicals could've arranged correctly and become enclosed in a cell membrane. Evolutionists haven't shown any mechanism capable of harnessing the energy needed to select amino acids and sort out which will build each gene to develop an organism. Even if enough energy was available, the only systems able to harness the energy necessary for this process are either living or intelligent. The Urey-Miller experiments did not produce life; they didn't produce specified complexity. Pasteur's law of biogenesis, in proper context, rules out both spontaneous generation (e.g. mice from cheese) and abiogenesis. The odds of abiogenesis are considered to be the equivalent of mathematically impossible. The odds of the simplest life form coming together at random is 1 in 20 to the 445 (amino acids) x 239 (minimum # of protein molecules) power = 1 in 20 to the 137,915th power.

Some books that I plan to read by the end of the year are:

Chris Brown's debut album is very good. I especially like tracks 2, 3, 5, 10, and 14.

Fossils Support Cataclysmic Global Flood

Fossil evidence supports the Biblical account of a global flood

In several parts of the world there are incomplete skeletons of wolves, oxen, deer, bears, hyenas, wooly mammoths, rhinos, etc. in deep fissures. The animals couldn't have fallen into these fissures alive or have been rolled there by streams, and must have been deposited underwater becase they are cemented together by calcite. This is more evidence of a catastrophic global flood.

It is possible that nothing ever existed

While it is logically possible that nothing ever existed, it is actually impossible. Something exists. As long as a total state of nothingness is impossible, then something must necessarily and eternally exist (God), because nothing cannot produce something. If there were ever a total state of nothingness, then there would always be a total state of nothingness, because nothing cannot produce anything.

Wednesday, February 22, 2006

Nothing exists necessarily and God does not exist necessarily because we can always imagine something not existing

Atheists say that it is always possible to imagine anything, including God, as not existing, and therefore nothing exists necessarily. However, this objection is irrelevant because something undeniably exists. As long as something finite exists there must be a Cause of its existence.

God Is Necessarily Omnibenevolence

God is necessarily omnibenevolence

As the universal Moral Law Giver, God is omnibenevolent. Otherwise, all moral effort would be futile because be could be sacrificing our lives for what is not ultimately right. The source of all good must be absolutely good since the standard of all good must be completely good. Furthermore, the problem of evil fails. [1]

Summa Contra Neopaganism

Neopaganism is false. It is wrongly polytheistic, occult, pluralistic, relativistic, irrationalistic, and often radically feminist.

Various Reasons For Suffering

There is plenty of gratuitous evil, i.e., purposeless suffering

Some suffering is brought on directly by our free choice (gluttony can result in obesity), some suffering is caused indirectly by free choice (sloth can result in poverty), some physical evil to others can result from free choice (spouse or child abuse), other people suffer indirectly because of our free choice (alcoholism can lead to poverty of one's children), some physical evil may be a necessary byproduct of a good process, some physical evil may be a necessary condition for attaining a greater moral good, some physical suffering may be a necessary condition of a greater moral good, and some physical evil is a necessary attribute of a morally good physical world.

Sixth Commandment

The KJV translation of the Sixth Commandment is misleading. The commandment refers to premeditated, unjustified killing a.k.a murder. Although God ordered the extermination of entire cities, He did so in righteous judgment [1] on a people whose corruption had led to extreme wickedness, including child sacrifice to the false god Baal.

Hamas and Hezbollah Are Not "Freedom Fighters"

Hamas and Hezbollah are noble freedom fighters

Hamas and Hezbollah are not freedom fighters; they are terrorists. Hamas members engage engage in violent actions against Americans and Israelis. Murdering innocent men, women, and children is not a "legitimate form of resistance." Hamas, Hezbollah, PLFP, and Islamic Jihad members shoot infants, blow themselves up in restaurants and at bus stops among other places, take and murder hostages, and commit many other abominable crimes. They illegally use force against people and property to coerce the population in order to further their warped political objectives. Hamas is totally opposed to the existence of Israel and wants to replace it with an Islamic theocracy. Hamas emphasizes jihad (holy war) as the sole and immediate means to solve the problem of Palestine.

Why Iran Must Not Be Given Nuclear Weapons Technology

It is safe to give nuclear weapons and help out with nuclear technology in Iran

Iran must not be given nuclear weapons. Iran violated U.N. non-proliferation protocols. The fact that Soviet Union, Pakistan, Communist China, India, and North Korea were given nuclear weapons does not mean that Iran should be provided nuclear weapons. Iran is a corrupt Islamic theocracy whose rulers have sought worldwide attention and status by sponsoring insurgence and terrorism beyond their borders. Iran wants "peaceful" nuclear power and yet it's completely self-sufficient in energy production; it has enough natural gas to last for several centuries. Iran can't create nuclear weapons on its own, so it probably can't guarantee the protocols needed to prevent their misuse or theft. Iran has enough oil reserves to blackmail countries that need petroleum, enough terrorists that can be armed with dirty bombs or sheltered under a nuclear umbrella, and the money needed to buy influence and exemption from the law.

Swift and Simple Refutation of Logical Positivism

Logical positivism is false. The principle of empirical verifiability says that all meaningful statements must be true by definition or empirically testable, but the empirical verifiability principle does not fit into either of these categories. The attempts to create a third category which includes the meaningfulness of the verifiability principle while excluding all metaphysical and theological statements fail. Metaphysical statements are meaningful within a metaphysical context using metaphysical criteria.

Summa Contra Indeterminism

Indeterminism is the correct theory of causality

Indeterminism, proponents of which include Charles Pierce and William James, is false. Indeterminists misapply Heisenberg's principle. Indeterminism makes science impossible and the world irrational if events occur without a cause. The prinicple of causality is well established and undeniable. Indeterminism wrongly eliminates moral responsibility and denies God's role as the Originator and Sustainer of all things.

Q Gospel

The authors of the Gospel of Matthew and the Gospel of Luke depended on a lost Q document which compiled the sayings of Jesus

There is no Gospel of Q. There is no manuscript evidence for a Q document and none of the early church fathers mentioned anything like a Q gospel. The evidence indicates that the Gospels of Luke, Mark, and Matthew were written between A.D. 50 and 65. Early church fathers attributed the Gospels to their stated authors. If the Gospels were written by Matthew, Mark, and Luke, they were written by eyewitnesses of Jesus. Many similarities should be expected if the Gospels were written by eyewitnesses; the eyewitnesses would be expected to report Jesus saying the same things if the Gospels record Jesus' actual sayings. The similarities can be due to the authors' inspiration by the Holy Spirit. The Q document was invented by liberal "scholars" who deny the divine inspiration of the Bible.
A common falsehood propagated by leftists is that opposition to gay marriage entails irrational fear of homosexuals.

Misguided Michael Martin

Michael Martin wrongly denies the existence of God, the historicity of Jesus Christ, the resurrection of Christ, and the early dates of the Gospels. Martin is incorrect in His belief that the disciples were victims of hallucinations.

Experiential Knowledge and Divine Omniscience, with Tim Holt

Another argument against God's omniscience is the problem of experiential knowledge, but there is no logical inconsistency in the idea of possessing the knowledge of something without going through the process because there is a logical difference between the knowledge and the process by which it is acquired. God knows evil because He has perfect knowledge of things and all that can occur to them, i.e. all the particular things that can ever be actualized.

I am very grateful to Tim Holt for his assistance with this issue. God bless you and yours, Tim!

Modalism Is False

Modalism, or Sabellianism, is false because God has only one nature and three distinct co-equal and co-eternal persons (Father, Son, Holy Spirit/Ghost) share this same nature at the same time. Modalism incorrectly affirms one person manifested in three modes at different times, like water as a solid, liquid, and gas--which is an analogy one must never use when explaining the Trinity.

Relation of Immutable God to Mutable World

God cannot relate to the world without undergoing change

According to Norman L. Geisler's Baker Encyclopedia of Christianity, the eternal, unchanging God relates to the changing world. In God's relationship with humans, it is a real relationship of dependence on the creatures' part but not a relationship of dependence on the part of God. God need not be temporal in order to relate to the temporal world. God never changes as He relates to the world, but real changes do occur in that relation with the world.

One of my Danish family friends had very interesting things to say about the Muhammad cartoons. She sums the causes of the problem and debunks widespread misconceptions about the situation. I hope to post her comments soon.

Meanwhile, a Pakistani cleric, in the name of "peaceful" Islam, is offering a $1 million reward to those who kill the "cursed man" who drew the cartoons. Insanity. There's no reason to feel sorry for the protestors who die because they consciously choose to be in a dangerous situation by rioting with thousands of other violent protestors.

The Beginning of the Universe Was Caused

The universe was not caused

That the universe began to exist is undeniable. Atheists argue that the universe began but was uncaused. This claim is false. That everything that begins to exist has a cause for its existence is not plausibly deniable, and the objection that subatomic events are uncaused is false. [1] Something can only be uncaused if it has no beginning, and the universe began 13.7 billion years ago in the Big Bang. [2]

Cantor's Set Theorem as a Proposed Disproof of God's Omniscience

Update 1/13/2013: Here's a post that's been vitiated at http://scientopia.org/blogs/goodmath/2012/12/31/a-bad-mathematical-refutation-of-atheism. The author is right; I had no idea what I was talking about. I was 16 and full of myself. Here's the post for your amusement. I won't have time to do a lot of necessary revisions on this blog until at least the summer of 2013, if not later:

Cantor's Set Theorem disproves divine omniscience

God is omniscient in the sense that He knows all that is not impossible to know. God knows Himself, He knows and does, knows every creature ideally, knows evil, knows changing things, and knows all possibilites. His knowledge allows free will.

Cantor's set theorem is often used to argue against the possibility of divine omniscience and therefore against the existence of God. It can be stated:
1. If God exists, then God is omniscient.
2. If God is omniscient, then, by
definition, God knows the set of all truths.
3. If Cantor's theorem is true,
then there is no set of all truths.
4. But Cantor’s theorem is true.
5. Therefore, God does not exist.
However, this argument is false. The non-existence of a set of all truths does not entail that it is impossible for God to know all truths. The consistency of a plausible theistic position can be established relative to a widely accepted understanding of the standard model of Cantorian set theorem. The metaphysical Cantorian premises imply that Cantor’s theorem is inapplicable to the things that God knows. A set of all truths, if it exists, must be non-Cantorian.
The attempted disproof of God’s omniscience is, from a meta-mathematical standpoint, is inadequate to the extent that it doesn't explain well-known mathematical contexts in which Cantor’s theorem is invalid. The "disproof" doesn't acknowledge standard meta-mathematical conceptions that can analogically be used to establish the relative consistency of certain theistic positions. The metaphysical assertions concerning a set of all truths in the atheistic argument above imply that Cantor’s theorem is inapplicable to a set of all truths.

Brilliant Theists

Theists are stupid

Being a theist does not entail intellectual deficiency. Johann Kepler, Blaise Pascal, Nicholas Steno, Charles Babbage, Gregor Mendel, William Ramsay, Robert Boyle, Roger Bacon, Isaac Newton, Joseph Lister, James Simpson, Louis Agassiz, William Kelvin, James Clerk Maxwell, Galileo Galilei, Louis Pasteur, and more than 132 other prominent, intelligent philosophers [1] are theists. And what about the Church Fathers and Doctors through the centuries? Those saints are intellectual and spiritual giants!

[1] http://theism.actualism.com/theistic.php3

Creatio Ex Nihilo Does Not Entail Time Before Time

Creatio ex nihilo is impossible because it implies time before time

A common misconception about creation ex nihilo is that it implies time before time. "Before" is ontologically (causally), not temporally, prior. God existed before time even though time did not. Before time there was no time, there was eternity.

Proving A Negative: No Big Deal

Often theists make the mistake in their debates with atheists that it is impossible to prove a negative. There are plenty of examples, e.g. square circles.

Absolute Pacifism Is Wrong

Pacifism is wrong because war is sometimes necessary for the prevention of evil. [1] What we can do during war is pray that our leaders have godly wisdom, that our military will be safe, that the conflict will be quickly resolved, and that both sides suffer minimum casualties.

All people are not equal. This is due to mental, physical, personal, and other differences.

Jesus Not A Copycat Myth

The figure of Jesus of Nazareth is an amalgamation of other mythical heroes

Many proponents of the bogus theory that Jesus was a copycat myth argue that Jesus' virgin birth story had a pagan source. The New Testament writers were contemporary eyewitnesses to the events. The story of Jesus' virgin birth lacks mythical characteristics and borrowed elements from known pagan birth myths. The people, events, and places that are identified in connected with Jesus Christ's birth are historically accurate. In Greek myths and other pagan legends the gods were only disguised as humans and gods and humans had sexual relations. In Christianity, on the other hand, the second person of the Trinity became human. Additionally, the Gospel writers could not have borrowed from Greek myths of gods who became human because the Greek stories postdate the time of Jesus Christ.

Abortion Not Constitutional

Nowhere does the American Constitution grant the right to have an abortion on-demand.
Today is the 47th anniversary of the self-proclaimed Marxist [1] Fidel Castro's inauguration as lifetime President of Cuba.

"Terrorists Do It Because They Don't Have A Choice" Myth

Terrorists commit violent actions because they have no other viable option

Palestinian terrorists and their advocates often claim that Palestinians commit terror out of desperation; that they have nothing better to do. Poverty, although unfortunate, does not justify terrorism. A lot of terrorists, e.g. Osama bin Laden, aren't the least bit poor and desperate. There is no connection between terrorism and poverty, nor is there an apparent connection between terrorism and social background, says a report by National Bureau of Economic Research members Alan Kreuger and Jitka Maleckova. These suicide bombings and other acts of terrorism are crimes against humanity as they specifically target innocent civilians. Suicide bombing is absolutely NEVER justified. Palestinians should negotiate or try to solve problems in a nonviolent way in the same way that Martin Luther King, Jr. and Mahatma Gandhi did. The terrorists' mistakenly think that terrorism is going to make Israel give up land, and the terrorists ignore Israel's history of willingness to trade land for peace.

Percy Bysshe Shelley's Naive Questions About God

Atheist Percy Bysshe Shelley said:
If he is infinitely good, what reason should we have to fear him? If he is infinitely wise, why should we have doubts concerning our future? If he knows all, why warn him of our needs and fatigue him with our prayers? If he is everywhere, why erect temples to him? If he is just, why fear that he will punish the creatures that he has filled with weaknesses? If grace doeseverything for them, what reason would he have for recompensing them? If he is all-powerful, how offend him, how resist him? If he is reasonable, how can he be angry at the blind, to whom he has given the liberty of being unreasonable? If he is immovable, by what right do we pretend to make him change his decrees? If he is inconceivable, why occupy ourselves with him? IF HE HAS SPOKEN, WHY IS THE UNIVERSE NOT CONVINCED? If the knowledge of a God is the most necessary, why is it not the most evident and the clearest?
Apologist Matthew J. Slick told me the following answers to the silly questions: Unrighteous people must fear (revere) the maximally good God because He has the right and ability to punish sin. The doubts of we finite humans don’t reflect God’s infinite wisdom and trustworthiness. Prayer benefits the child of God who enters into His holy presence. God is never fatigued. Temples are for worshipping God in truth and spirit, as well as fellowship with other believers. God did not fill creatures with weakness; they were created good but are degenerate due to the Fall, and people freely choose sin. Breaking God's laws offends God because the laws reflect His omnibenevolence. This rejection of salvation through Christ and sinful rebellion results in eternal punishment. God’s infinite reasonableness allows for Him to be upset with those who sin against Him. God doesn’t change His mind because His omniscient mind makes eternal (binding) decrees. God is conceivable or else no one would be able to argue for or against His existence. God is coherently defined (see Joseph A. Sabella). People don’t believe in God for a variety of reasons, but all of them are inadequate and constitute a failure to appreciate the powerful evidence and arguments for His existence. God makes His existence quite clear and doesn’t give into the arrogant and pointless demands of scoffers. God commands us to have faith in Him, and we are justified through faith. The scoffers' hearts are hardened by God subsequently, indirectly, through free choice, and as to their effect.

The Horns of the Trilemma

The Trilemma says that Jesus was either A) Lord, B) liar, or C) lunatic. Others add to the Trilemma, saying that D) maybe Jesus never existed, that E) He was a good teacher but merely human, that F) He was misinterpreted, or that G) He never claimed to be Lord.

A) The evidence for the first option is overwhelming and is outlined throughout this site. (see E below)
B) The claims that Jesus was a liar do not stand up to scrutiny; e.g. the bogus Da Vinci Code claims.

D) Jesus existed and the Gospels portray Him accurately. http://thebananarepublican.blogspot.com/2006/01/new-italian-court-case-over-existence.html

Baptism Of the Dead Is Wrong

We ought to baptize people who have already died so that they get to Heaven

Baptism of the dead is pointless. Baptizing a deceased person does not change their eternal fate because that is determined during life on Earth, when one chooses whether or not to accept Christ as their savior.

Jesus Did Not Marry and Have Kids

Jesus of Nazareth married and had children

The claim that Jesus married and had kids with Mary Magdalene is a lame conspiracy theory akin to the myths that the World Trade Center towers were demolished with explosives, that the Israeli Mossad executed 9/11, that reptilian humanoids rule the world, etc. Neither the Bible nor the uninspired Apocrypha lend any credence whatsoever to the claim that Jesus was married. Rabbinical law did not mandate Jesus being married; many Biblical prophets were celibate, e.g. Jeremiah, John the Baptist, etc. The Gnostic "Gospel" of Mary Magdalene does not realistically portray 1st-century Palestine, and is dated some time after A.D. 200. Gnostics used the Mary Madgalene pseudopigraphica as part of their strategy to overthrow apostolic authority, and to assert the Gnostic view that spiritual beings must come in male-female pairs. Lacking any theological, Biblical, or historical basis, this theory must be abandoned by serious thinkers.

Nihilism Is Wrong

Nothing has any meaning or value

Nihilism is wrong. Nihilist's denial of all value is self-defeating because denying all value involves the belief that there is value in making such a denial. Additionally, nihilists value the freedom to be nihilists. Values, and absolute values [1], are inescapable.

Correct Understanding of Ockham's Razor

Parsimony is often misunderstood. Parsimony doesn't mean that the fewer causes posited, the truer a proposition is. It actually means that "causes should not be multiplied without necessity." Oversimplifying a problem and unnecessarily complicating it are both incorrect. For example, materialism is an inadequate explanation of reality [1] and commits the reductionist fallacy.

I am not affiliated with this program. I just chose the yellow elephant picture for The Banana Republican because the elephant represents the Republican Party and bananas are yellow.

Scientology is false. It is a patchwork of science fiction and Eastern mythology and is a money-making scam. Scientology wrongly denies the existence of the God of the Bible, [1] Heaven, and Hell, [2] and rejects the deity of Jesus Christ. [3] Scientology is polytheistic, and polytheism is false. [4] Scientology wrongly denies humanity's sinful nature and the need for salvation through Jesus Christ. Scientologists believe in religious pluralism, but religious pluralism cannot be true. Scientology posits reincarnation, which is false. [5]

Religious Pluralism Is Illogical

Different religions make mutually exclusive claims. Some are monotheistic, many are polytheistic or pantheistic, and some teach reincarnation while others teach judgment. Religious pluralism is a false doctrine, although we must not be abusive when we have disagreements. There is no room for ad hominem attacks. Religious pluralism is a disservice in that it paves the way for people to accept demonstrably false religions and not achieve eternal life with God in Heaven.
Happy Valentine's Day.

The Truth About Truth

What is truth? Truth is correspondence to reality. It's not just what works, what feels good, what's intended, what's comprehensive, or what's coherent. Truth is absolute, not relative. It doesn't change; only our understanding of it does. Relativism leads to contradictions, and with relativism there are no wrongs and no rights. Things that are in between don't disprove absolutism. Absolutism is not dogmatism. Truth is indeed narrow. For example, the Bible is the Word of God [1], and anything opposed to it is false; this negates religious pluralism. I am committed to bringing you the truth on this blog.

Gospel of Barnabas Fraudulent

The Gospel of Barnabas is a fraud. The earliest reference to it is from a 15th century work, and there is no original manuscript evidence for its existence. No Christian or Muslim referred to it before the 15th century. 1st century eyewitness documents refute the Gospel of Barnabas' teaching that Jesus did not claim to be the Messiah [1] and did not die on the cross, when even the Quran acknowledges that Jesus was the Messiah (suras 5:19, 75). The Gospel of Barnabas contains references to vassals, wooden wine casks, medieval feudalism, and a medieval court procedure. It falsely claims that Jesus was born when Pilate was governor, and that Jesus sailed to Nazareth, which is impossible. The Gospel of Barnabas deny's Christ's deity and contains many Islamic elements.

Quantum Physics and The Question of Uncaused Subatomic Events

Subatomic events are uncaused and therefore the beginning of the universe could also be uncaused

Quantum physics do not show that subatomic events are uncaused. Heisenberg's principle is one of unpredictability, not uncausality. The overall pattern can be predicted even though a certain particle's position can't be predicted. Scientists can't be too sure of what the subatomic realm is truly like. Furthermore, not all physicists agree with Heisenberg's principle of uncertainty.

People who die evil deaths do not go to Hell but instead cease to exist

Annihilationism is false. Jehovah's Witnesses preach annihilationism, but the Bible says that Hell exists [1] and is an eternal [Matthew 25:41] place of weeping and gnashing of teeth [Matthew 8:12; Matthew 22:13; Matthew 24:51; Matthew 25:30], a place of unquenchable flames [Mark 9:43-48], a place of everlasting torment [Revelation 20:10], a place for the beast and false prophet [Revelation 19:20; Revelation 20:2; Revelation 20:10], and a place of conscious punishment [2 Thessalonians 1:9]. Hell is not extinction; it is separation from God. Hell is destruction, but not nonexistence.

Jehovah's Witnesses Are Not Christians

The Jehovah's Witnesses movement is Christian

The Jehovah's Witnesses movement is not Christian. Jehovah's Witnesses deny the Trinity [1], the deity of Christ [2], Christ's physical resurrection [3], the personhood of the Holy Spirit, and salvation from sin by grace through faith. Jehovah's Witnesses add to God's Word, take Scripture out of context, read the Bible based on their false theological presuppositions, and label verses as figurative when the verses contradict the JW doctrines. Jehovah's Witnesses deny Hell [4], falsely teaching annihilationism instead [5], and refuse blood transfusions (even when lives are in danger), and claim that Christ died on a stake rather than a cross. They say that Jesus was Michael the Archangel. JW's refuse to celebrate Christsmas (Jesus' birth), Easter (Jesus' resurrection), birthdays, and other holidays. They don't salute the flag or say the Pledge of Allegiance. Jehovah's Witnesses are not witnessing to Yahweh. The Watchtower Society incorrectly predicted that the end would occur in 1925, and again in 1975. JW's, like Mormons, are incorrect in their allegations of corruption of the Bible. JW's falsely claim that the soul does not survive death. [6] JW's oftentimes wrongly discourage independent thinking.

Watch Murderball; 10/10. Review coming soon.
Holtz says that parsimony falsifies dualism. However, the debate is not about parsimony, but of substance dualism's merits. Substance dualism is truly needed to explain key uneliminable features of human beings. [1]

Existence of Universal Moral Law Undeniable

An objective universal moral law exists

The existence of a universal moral law is undeniable. If there was no universal moral law, moral disagreements wouldn't make sense, moral criticisms would be meaningless, promises and peace treaties would unnecessary, and we wouldn't make excuses for breaking the moral law.

Substance Dualism Is True

There are both material and immaterial substances

Substance dualism is true. We know this from the Law of Identity, intentionality, continuity of identity through change, and secondary qualities. We also know that dualism is true because mental events differ from physical events, mental events are self-presenting and physical events are not, conscious experience cannot be explained in purely physical terms (e.g. qualia exist and cannot be explained in physical terms), and we are self-aware.

Antony Flew Now A Deist

Currently Flew is a deist, but should be a theist because both deism and atheism are untenable.
Polydeism, pandeism, and panendeism are false. See my posts on deism, pantheism, panentheism, and polytheism.

Rachel Scott

Rachel Scott, a devout Christian, was the first student murdered during the 4/20/1999 Columbine massacre committed by Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold. Today her older sister came to my school. She made an extremely powerful, inspiring, and thought-provoking presentation about Rachel's life and the Columbine massacre that lasted about an hour. Ms. Scott described Rachel's Challenge [1] and I will meet it. Rachel strongly valued acts of kindness to everyone, and those who are new in school, handicapped, teased, or otherwise in need of compassion. The massacre could have been prevented had Rachel's theories been applied to help out Harris and Klebold. Rachel was profoundly mature. Her older sister's presentation was very genuine, with no lame cliches whatsoever that one often expects from a speech. Rachel, on numerous occasions, unambiguously predicted her premature death and was active in telling people about her prediction. She made a true difference in fellow students' lives, like a girl named Amber who needed friends and a handicapped kid who was about to commit a suicide he had been contemplating in detail for some time. Rachel really practiced what she preached. Another interesting thing is that on the morning of the shootings, Rachel "feverishly" drew a picture of 13 tears falling from her eyes onto a rose, and 13 drops of blood on the rose; however, she frequently drew this same picture. There were 13 victims not counting the wicked idiots Harris and Klebold, 12 students and a teacher, including 2 close friends of Rachel's younger brother Craig, who played dead. Rachel focused on drawing the picture for the classes leading up to lunch, so focused that she did not pay attention to other people who were talking to her, or the teachers doing a lesson. A man in Ohio with no prior knowledge of Rachel's drawings dreamt that she was crying onto a plant which was growing each time a tear landed on it. God bless Rachel Scott and the other victims. [2] I consider Rachel Scott a martyr and saint.

More thoughts on Columbine coming soon.

Briefly on the Euthyphro Dilemma

Holtz incorrectly believes that the Euthyphro Dilemma is an actual dilemma. Good is God's very nature; His commands flow necessarily from His moral nature. Since God is just, He commands things that are just for us. The good is not arbitrary, and it is not outside and above God; the good is the moral nature of God Himself. This is necessarily expressed in His moral commands, and these become our moral duties.

Summa Contra Jainism

Jainism is the true religion

Jainism is false. It is pantheistic [1] and posits reincarnation. [2] Jainism shows no evidence of divine inspiration. The Jain concept of salvation is unjust, and its pretty much open only to male monk. Jainism's extreme asceticism is wrong. Christianity is the one true religion. [3]

Thomas Paine

Thomas Paine was wrongly deistic [1] and antisupernaturalistic. Paine neglected to deal with the problem of evil [2] from a deistic worldview. Paine, as an antisupernaturalist, rejected miracles. [3] He incorrectly believed that the Bible contains many errors. [4] Paine wrongly rejected the historicity of the New Testament and his view on the dating of the Bible was inaccurate.

Summa Contra Confucianism

Confucianism is false. It is theologically inadequate as it is nontheistic. It wrongly teaches that humanity is completely autonomous, when in fact we need salvation through Christ. Humans are inherently sinful from birth and cannot be acceptable to the perfectly holy and righteous God through good works alone [Romans 3:20].

Bertrand Russell

Bertrand Russell wrongly thought that Jesus was unwise, cruel, unmerciful, and inhumane. Russell wrongly rejected Hell. [1] He denied miracles [2] and immortality [3]. Russell thought Buddhism [4] is the best religion, but this is not the case. His hard-core agnosticism was self-defeating. He mistakenly thought that all religions are based on fear. His view of sin was inconsistent. Although Russell did not believe in the historicity of Jesus [5], Russell said that if He did exist His authority [6] and teachings should be rejected; Russell did this out of moral outrage. His question "Who made God?" is silly and based on a misstatement of the principle of causality. [7] Russell ignores Christ's sinlessness. Jesus was kind, not unkind, in warning people about Hell. Jesus was not vindictive [Luke 23:34; Matthew 5:39, 44]. Russell mistakenly assumed that Christ said He would return within the lifetime of His disciples.

Scientism Is Philosophically Bankrupt

Scientism is false. Other aspects of reality cannot be explained by the scientific method and instead must be known intuitively, inferentially, transcendentally, or by special revelation.

Creatio Ex Nihilo

God created the universe ex nihilo
Because creatio ex materia and creatio ex deo are false, creatio ex nihilo is the only option. Contrary to atheist complaints, Dr. Norman L. Geisler proves in his must-buy Baker Encyclopedia of Christian Apologetics (Baker Academics: Grand Rapids, MI, 1999), 172-177 that creatio ex nihilo does not imply time before time, that nothing made something, or that "nothing" is something (nothing means absolutely nothing).

Universalism Contrary to Scripture

Everyone goes to Heaven

Universalism is false. It rejects Hell. [1] Universalists, like biblioskeptics, take Scripture out of context while ignoring other clear passages. Universalism is contrary to God's perfection, love, and justice by violating free will and not punishing sin. Universalism, as a belief based solely on wish, is a Freudian illusion.

Creatio Ex Deo

God created ex Deo

Creatio ex deo is false. There is no way the created world could be part of the simple Being. God, as a Necessary Being, has no extraneous elements of His being from which to create something. Finally, the universe is not eternal; before it existed, there was nothing except God.

Mormonism Is False

Mormonism is the true religion

Mormonism is false. It is not a "Church of Jesus Christ ... " at all. It canonizes the Book of Mormon, exalting it above the Bible. The Book of Mormon did not come from God, and one has to wonder if Joseph Smith ever laughed at those who believed his made-up bull (there's a good South Park episode about this). Mormonism incorrectly teaches that Jesus and Lucifer (the angel who rebelled, a.k.a. Satan) are brothers, that God had sexual intercourse with Mary, God the Father had a Father (?!), and God the Father has a physical, anthropomorphic body. Mormonism teaches that there is a goddess in addition to God, that there are many Gods (impossible [1]), and that we can become Gods (impossible), and teaches the pre-existence of the soul like Origen [2], etc. Mormonism is not Christian; it denies the Christian teachings about the Bible, God (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit), Satan, baptism, Heaven, atonement, etc. Mormonism wrongly teaches polygamy.

Disastrous Consequences of Neotheism

Neotheism is false. Neotheism is unBiblical and incoherent (e.g. saying that God is necessary yet He changes) and undermines infallibility and eliminates a Biblical test for false prophets. Neotheism is not a tenable position.
The theory of Panspermia is unsubstantiated/implausible and fails to explain the origin of the first life.

Hell Is Perfectly Fair

Eternal punishment for temporal sins is unfair

Only eternal punishment will suffice for unrepented-of mortal sins against the eternal God. Since evil is contagious, it must be quarantined; there can only be an eternal Heaven if there is an eternal Hell. Jesus Christ's temporal suffering for our sins satsifies God eternally, and our temporal sins offend God eternally.

God does try to reform people; this occurs during life on Earth. The unreformable and unrepentant go to Hell. God cannot force free creatures to be reformed, because this is cruel. Humans are free and know better and therefore should be punished for their evildoing.

Unbelievers willingly rebel against God in time, so there is no problem with Hell (separation from God) being their chosen eternal state. Unbelievers in Hell bring majesty to God's justice, and believers in Heaven praise God's mercy. God realizes that loving the entire world and losing some of its inhabitants is better than not loving them at all. Hell is avoidable; simply repent in earnest.

That Hell exists is supported by strong evidence [1]; don't be delusional and reject it just because you don't want to believe in it.

Responses to Atheist Proposals of a Better World

Atheists complain that God could have not created at all, not created a free world, created a free world that wouldn't sin, or created a world that sinned but would all be saved. However, some world is better than no world, a nonfree world is not better than some world, a free world is morally better than a nonfree world, and a free world where no one sins or a free world where everyone sins and then gets saved might be morally inferior to the one we live in. Persuasion, not coercion, must be used to discourage vice (cf. A Clockwork Orange).

Atheistic Ethics Are Without Foundation

God is not needed to have a basis for morality

Atheists can believe in moral absolutes but cannot justify them. Otherwise, they are moral relativists. This is another one of the many ways in which atheism is unparsimonious.

C.S. Lewis Proves Reality of Objective Moral Law

Objective moral law exists. This moral law is prescriptive as opposed to descriptive. Prescriptive things are not part of the descriptive material world. Therefore, there is an immaterial objective reality, and more than matter exists. [1]

[1] C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity (17-19) {highly recommended}

Satan Exists

Satan is not a subsistent person

Satan is real. We know this from the authority of the Bible, the history of Israel, the reality of demons, the universality of temptation and evil, and the proliferation of deception.

Atheists say that there are natural explanations for the demonic: sicknesses once attributed to the demonic, even by the Bible, have natural causes. The Bible, however, distinguishes between sickness and demonic possession and recommends medicine for the treatment of natural sickness [1 Timothy 5:23]. Similar effects do not prove identical causes. There is at least some demonic activity which shows distinctive spiritual characteristics not present with natural sickness. Belief in a personal Satan does not entail intellectual inferiority. Those who use this argument could arguably have been deceived by Satan, who disguises himself as an angel of light [2 Corinthians 11:14].
Satanism is wrong because it demands worship of the Devil, living for the moment, gluttony, and selfishness. Many Satanists wrongly deny the existence of Satan (coming soon). It is a conscious effort not to worship the true God.

Summa Contra Deism

Deism is false. It is self-defeating to admit such a great miracle as creatio ex nihilo only to deny the possibility of lesser miracles, e.g. multiplication of bread loaves and fish, walking on water, virgin birth, physical resurrection, etc. Deists mistakenly understand natural law to be universal when in fact natural law describes how nature generally behaves. Deists, like theists, believe in an omnibenevolent God, but an omnibenevolent God would not abandon His creation; rather, He would continue to love and care for His creatures in the way that promoted Him to create them in the first place, even if this care must sometimes be provided via miracles. Deists often reject revelation-based religions just because many people have invented and abused religious beliefs. Deists, like atheists, have a very poor case against Christianity. For instance, Tom Paine believed most of the books of the Bible were written very late and written by people other than those who claimed to write them; however, there is sufficient evidence to support the authorship claims and early dates for the books of the Bible. The false attacks by deists and atheists against Christian doctrines like the Trinity, redemption, and deity of Jesus Christ reveal a superficial and naive understandings of these teachings.

Chinese Room

John R. Searle's Chinese Room argument is bogus

Objections to the Chinese Argument: [1]
· Although the individual in the Chinese room does not understand Chinese, perhaps the person and the room considered together as a system do.
o Someone might in principle memorize the rule book; they would then be able to interact as if they understood Chinese, but would still just be following a set of rules, with no understanding of the significance of the symbols they are manipulating.
· Suppose that instead of a room, the program was placed into a robot that could wander around and interact with its environment. Surely then it would be said to understand what it is doing?
o Suppose that, unbeknownst to the individual in the Chinese room, some of the inputs he was receiving came directly from a camera mounted on a robot, and some of the outputs were used to manipulate the arms and legs of the robot. Nevertheless, the person in the room is still just following the rules, and does not know what the symbols mean.
· Suppose that the program instantiated in the rule book simulated in fine detail the interaction of the neurons in the brain of a Chinese speaker. Then surely the program must be said to understand Chinese?
o Such a simulation will not have reproduced the important features of the brain—its causal and intentional states.
· But what if a brain simulation were connected to the world in such a way that it possessed the causal power of a real brain—perhaps linked to a robot of the type described above? Then surely it would be able to think.
o Such a machine would have to have the same causal powers as a brain. It would be more than just a computer program.

We see that the objections to the Chinese Room Argument are weak and based on mental functionalism and physicalism, both of which are false.

Naturalists wrongly the existence of things like qualia or try to interpret them in naturalistic terms that are incompatible with their own nature. Naturalists do this out of a false belief that only what lies within the space-time world is real.

Preliminary Thoughts Re: Holtz on the Nature of Heaven

Regarding Holtz's questions on the "Nature of Heaven," the following points must be made:
1. Heaven is eternal bliss. It's impossible to grow tired of bliss because then you wouldn't be content.
2. God realizes that worrying about our activities in Heaven is ultimately insignificant compared to how we live on Earth.
3. We are not brainwashed in Heaven. Rather, since we feel the ultimate presence of God and absence of Satan, we have endless affection for all other humans and no motivation for any kind of evil e.g. sin, hatred, jealousy, etc.
4. Increased knowledge does not negate personal identity.
5. Shame will be wiped away in God's presence but memory will remain.

I was right; the Steelers won. Mick Jagger was great.

Strong AI

Strong AI is false. Mental functionalism is based on the fallacy of ignoring the fact that the mind-brain problem is chiefly a problem about the ontological status of minds, as opposed to their functional properties. Functionalism cannot be the whole truth about the nature of mental events. The essential distinction between minds and machines remains and cannot be eliminated; there is an upper limit to the intellectual achievements a machine could make. The views that support strong AI--ontological monism, nomological monism, epiphenomenalism--are false. There is no plausible naturalistic explanation of consciousness, and believing such an explanation will someday be found is based in faith in naturalism, and naturalism is false. While functionalism can at best explain the functional aspect of mentality, it cannot provide a warrant for the strong artificial intelligence claim that that there is no essential difference between mind and machine.

Friedrich Nietzsche

Friedrich Nietzsche was wrongly theologically atheistic [1], morally relativistic [2], and materialistic [3], thinking the world is all there is (cf. Carl Sagan). He wrongly rejected the idea of an afterlife [4] and miracles. [5] He thought God was dead, but this view is refuted by strong evidence for the existence of God, and the atheistic objections to this evidence are false. Nietzsche, like Freud, thought God was an illusion, but the monotheistic God exists.

Anti-Trinitarian Confusions

Anti-trinitarians confuse unity with singularity and person (who) with nature (what). In contrast to tritheists, trinitarians do not affirm a god with three different substances but rather that God is three distinct persons in one substance. At the heart of e.g. Muslim inability to comprehend the trinity is the false neoplatonic concept of oneness. The Trinity does not violate the law of non-contradiction. God is triune (1 x 1 x 1) as opposed to triplex (1 + 1 + 1). The Father, Son and Holy Spirit are not parts or forms of God, each of them is God.

Answering Infidels

I just came across an excellent site called Answering Infidels, which refutes some of the bogus arguments at the Secular Web. [1]

[1] http://answeringinfidels.com

Pacifism vs. History

If pacifists want to make a good case, they have to stop using the argument that war has never solved anything. War or continued military assistance defeated Nazism, Japanese militarism, and Soviet Communism. The number of people killed by Hitler, Mao, and Stalin exceeds the combined death toll of World War I and World War II.

Summary of Flaws of Secular Humanism

Secular humanism must be rejected by serious philosophers because of its:
  • metaphysical naturalism
  • theological atheism
  • rejection of miracles
  • moral relativism
  • human self-sufficiency
  • politico-economical socialist utopianism
  • abiogenesis theory of biological origins
  • rejection of faith in divine providence
  • denial of the existence of the soul
  • rejection of immortality
  • excessive optimism about human perfectability
  • denial of Heaven
  • denial of Hell
  • endorsement of abortion
  • tolerance of suicide
  • acceptance of active euthanasia
  • mandated reduction of military spending
  • etc.
Holtz speaks of "the absurdities underlying religion's 'optimism'," linking to his post about the nature of Heaven. I will eventually post detailed answers to the questions he presents regarding Heaven, then move on to the "justness of Hell," "nature of Hell," etc. In these sections there are many pointless questions and logical fallacies, such as arguments from moral outrage.

Democrats Contradictory On Terrorism

Democrats are opposed granting law enforcement agencies greater discretion to read mail and email, tap phones, and conduct random searches to prevent future terrorist attacks. They claim they want to prevent terrorist attacks. However, they have utterly failed to present any practical ideas to prevent terrorist attacks on our soil. What they do in the mean time is attempt to understand why Muslim countries hate us. What the Democrats apparently do not realize is that the Middle East has no legitimate reasons to hate America. It is clear that Muslim countries hate us not because of what we've done but because of who we are! America has a worldwide culture that is free and has advanced technology and abundant wealth. It is clear that the hatred is not because of our actions. America has, as Victor Davis Hanson points out in his must-buy Autumn of War:

  • liberated Kuwait; Kuwaiti women can even vote and hold office
  • deposed the murderous Saddam Hussein
  • deposed the oppressive, sexist Taliban
  • saved Muslims in Bosnia and Kosovo from annihilation
  • saved starving Somalians
  • saved the lives of hundreds of thousands in Serbia
  • saved Tutus
  • and helped many more peoples by ending corrupt, illegitimate theocracies and dictatorships

It's time for people to face the facts: Muslims have been the greatest killers of other Muslims in the past couple of decades.

Terrorists have proved to be stealthy, as in the case of 9/11. Wiretapping is acceptable and a good idea. We Americans have to stop bitching about fascism when we can freely complain about aspects of our life which has the freedom corrupt Islamic regimes refuse to give their unfortunate citizens.
